Grantmaking: Locally focused, globally engaged

The Heinz Endowments strives to improve the quality of life for all residents in the southwestern Pennsylvania region by addressing many challenges that we share with communities across the United States, and globally.

Alert to society’s changing social and economic dynamics, the foundation seeks to apply collaborative, creative and transformative strategies in its approach to critical issues in its efforts to safeguard the well-being of families, individuals and organizations in our regional community.

That is why, following extensive consultation with and valued input from local nonprofit, civic and organizational leadership, the Endowments developed a new grantmaking model by establishing seven priority strategies: Arts & Culture; Civic Participation; Climate, Environment & Health; Community & Economic Development; Food Systems; Veterans; and Workforce.

For over five decades, the Endowments and our Arts & Culture partners have worked to advance a region where everyone has a sense of belonging, cultural organizations are financially durable and sustainable, and creatively designed accessible public spaces strengthen both our civic and social fabric.  Since the early 1970s, we have invested in the power of artists, creative spaces and arts and culture-focused organizations.
