You have reached the former landing page for p4, an initiative supported by the City of Pittsburgh and The Heinz Endowments that launched a major effort to foster innovative, inclusive and sustainable urban growth and development in southwestern Pennsylvania. Launched in 2015, p4 advocated for cities to think about four major points when considering their future: people, planet, place and performance.

p4 brought together leaders in sustainable development from both the Pittsburgh region and cities around the world, hosting conferences that shared international best practices. The initiative also created a p4 equity-inspired performance metric for communities and developers featuring 12 performance measures: community, opportunity, economy, housing, land, public, connection, rainwater, air, energy, innovation and design.

While the p4 initiative was sunset in the early 2020s, efforts to move its vision forward continue through the work of the Sustainability team at The Heinz Endowments. Through its support of organizations that focus on an inclusive and clean economy, equitable development, the environment and public health, and sustainable food systems, the Endowments continues to work toward a more livable Pittsburgh for everyone.
