Issue 1, 2026, of h magazine, featured articles highlighting examples of efforts aimed at reinvigorating aspects of the Pittsburgh region. The cover story “Golden Opportunity” described several construction and renovation projects intended to pump new life into Pittsburgh’s Downtown, some of which were completed in time for the city’s hosting of the NFL Draft. The piece is accompanied by two sidebars, one examining some of the buildings upgraded to include affordable housing and the other providing background on two historical revitalization initiatives that reshaped Downtown Pittsburgh, Renaissance I and II.

“Newsworthy” looked at The Heinz Endowments’ increased investment in local nonprofit journalism as part of a democracy-focused strategy and noted a nonprofit digital news outlet’s purchase of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the region’s largest newspaper, saving it from closure. The final main story in the issue, “Creating Connective Spaces,” explores the arts and entertainment activities organized through the Hazelwood Local program to better connect residents to the Hazelwood Green development and each other.
