Sankofa Village for the Arts

In conjunction with the Legacy Arts Project, the Sankofa Village for the Arts hosts programming for youth and adults, encompassing drumming, dancing and martial arts. Held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, youth and adults are engaged in culturally enriching activities that are beneficial to the mind, body and spirit. Founded by Darrell Baldwin, Abdul Glover, and Shabaka Perkins, Sankofa Village is a gathering place in the community that serves as a cultural oasis, providing not only physical but also visual enrichment. The space is adorned with artifacts from the African diaspora that remind visitors of the richness that has emerged and spread from Africa, all the while maintaining its roots to the 'motherland'. Come on pass the 'Village' and stay for a spell. We all know the saying that, "It takes a village to raise a child." At Sankofa Village for the Arts, we are committed to providing an outlet that benefits the broader community for generations to come.
