Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra

About Us

By Kathleen Painter

The mission of the Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra is to provide a place where volunteer musicians may gather for the joy of playing classical music, and perform for the benefit of the community.

Our strength is in our inclusive nature centered on volunteerism.  Our members are musicians committed to creating quality music programs.  We come from various walks of life – all ages, many professions.

  • Provide quality musical performances at a reasonable cost
  • Develop the technical and artistic abilities of our members
  • Include local artists in our programs
  • Advance the classical music tradition
  • Assimilate the traditions and values of our community in our programming
  • Identify, engage, and promote emerging young musicians through our Young Artist Competition
  • Perform contemporary compositions, including premiers of new works
  • Expand the awareness of the diversity of music through multi-cultural programming
  • Engage the community through outreach
